John graduated from high school in Silsbee, Texas and attended The University of Texas in Austin. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder and a Deacon. John came to Austin in 1926 and except for the years of World War II, where he served in the Coast Guard, lived here the rest of his life. He was in the Life Insurance business for fifty years and served his clients well and considered them his friends. He was a quiet man, a gentleman, beloved by all who knew him. His trademark was his grey Stetson hat. John served the Austin community through the Exchange Club, The Association of Life Underwriters, Boy Scouts, Masonry and many other volunteer capacities. The most important things in his life were the church, his family, friends, being honored as a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason and deer hunting.
