John G Tipple was born on Jan 25, 1923, in Galveston, TX and died on Sept 20, 2008. He was the 6th of 7 boys born to Minnie & Harry Tipple. Dad was the loving, caring husband, of 57 years, to Barbara Dixon Tipple. He also loved and doted over "his girls" and their guys, Jonda White and her husband Mark, and Linda McSpadden and her husband Sam. His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Bryan White & wife Brittany, (Curtis White 9/2/81-1/3/83), Aaron McSpadden & fiancé Heather, Jenna McSpadden, and great-grandchildren: Kristen, Blake & Bailey White. Dad served in the Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines. After the war, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. working his way from lineman to management position over a 40 yr span. After his retirement from "Ma Bell" in Houston, Mom & Dad moved to Austin in 1981 and purchased Deck the Walls at Barton Creek Square. They have owned and operated this location for over 25 yrs. Dad loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served as an active member and deacon at Hyde Park Baptist Church, recently moving his membership to Austin Baptist Church. Most of all, Dad was a people person. He enjoyed his daily talks on the phone with his buddies, Neil & the other men at church; and going for lunch at Pappadeaux's with his dear pal, Pat. He cherished his morning "meetings" at the store with his manager and respected friend of 25 yrs, Steve. He treasured his friendship with the "Tallowood Gang", the "Luby's Supper Group", and the "Central Texas Bridge Club". He recounted days gone by, at family reunions, with his nieces and nephews. He made everyone he met, feel like they were part of our family. He will truly be missed. The family would like to express our love and appreciation to his wonderful caregivers: Rita, Angie, Nancy, Amanda, Roxanne & Oya. A Memorial Service, celebrating Dad's life will be held on Tuesday, September 23rd, at 2pm at Austin Baptist Church, 9003 Waterford Centre Blvd., (512)491-9600, followed with a time of visitation for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to TX Baptist Children's Home, 1301 North Mays Street, Round Rock, TX 78664,(512)255-3668.
