Jonas "Joe or Jorace" Silberstein, a lifelong Austinite, passed away at the age of 86 on September 27th, 2015. He lived a long and full life. He was born September 6, 1929, to Sadie and Max Silberstein. In 1952, he and his brother opened Jorace Men's Wear on the drag. He continued in the men's retail clothing business on his own, at the Whale, for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Juanita (Nita) Mendel Silberstein, and daughters, Cindy Lindauer, Debbie (Dan) Ryan, and Nancy (Abraham) Levit, and grandchildren, Emily and Scott Lindauer, and Missy and Tim Ryan, and a large extended family.
He was very active in a variety of activities and organizations during his lifetime. He was a member of Congregation Aguda Achim and Temple Beth Shalom. Burial took place in his wife's family plot in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a memorial service will be held Friday, October 9th at 3:30 pm at Congregation Agudas Achim at 7300 Hart Lane on the Dell Jewish Campus.
