With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Jose A. Casas Jr. “Joe”, 71, who left us on October 12, 2024. Born in McAllen, Texas, Joe was the adored son of Jose Adan and Minerva Casas, and a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.
After moving to Houston, Joe found his calling in the construction industry, working as a skilled stonemason for over 40 years. His dedication, artistry, and strong work ethic left an indelible mark on countless buildings, but it was the foundation he built with his family that was his proudest achievement. His children and grandchildren were his world, filling his life with love, laughter, and purpose. He adored his nieces and nephews just the same, creating memories and bonds that will last forever.
Joe had an infectious love for life. Whether singing, dancing with his signature moves, or cheering on the Astros, Oilers, ‘Big Blue,’ and later the Texans, he lived passionately and fully. He was truly the life of the party—his “rock star” spirit shining through in every moment. Music was his heartbeat, and his joy for it was shared with everyone who knew him.
An avid gardener, Joe found peace and happiness in nurturing the flowers and plants that blossomed in his backyard. His caring nature extended far beyond his garden, as he was always the first to offer a helping hand, guided by a deep faith in God.
Joe will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and kindness lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Criselda Casas, and his cherished children: Celeste (Austin) Hope, Christian (Matthew) Bird, Ryan Calvillo, Valerie (Giovan) Perez, and Joey Casas. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Ainsley and Avery Hope, and Miles and Nina Bird. Also surviving are his sisters, Celinda (Robert+) De Luna, Criselda (Oscar) Adame, Cristela (Rubén) Rios and Clarissa Guerrero and numerous nieces and nephews!
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00am with burial following at Valley Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to their go fund me in his memory. https://gofund.me/26101cb8
