Jay was born in Stamford, Texas to J. W. Arrington, Sr and wife DeVonne on October 28, 1940. His family moved to Texas City, Texas when he was very young, where he lived until he left home to attend and graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. He married his high school sweetheart, Tess Lindsey, on June 3, 1962 in Texas City, Texas. Jay joined his father’s accounting firm, Arrington and Arrington, as a CPA in 1964. He continued with this firm until it was J.W. Arrington, CPA., retiring in 2021. Jay and Tess chose to start and raise their family in La Marque, Texas. Jay was actively involved in Kiwanis and the Jaycees as well as coaching Little League. Wherever there was a need to help better the community or to participate in his children’s activities he was there and very involved. He loved all music and after he retired he learned to play the piano, proving to all that you are never too old to learn new things.
Dad loved music, any dog he ever came across, finding the fun in morning walks, fishing with good friends, crabbing, all sports, The Texas Longhorns, and telling the grandchildren funny, silly stories of the “catywampus”. Mostly he loved any time he was with Tess, his children, their loved ones and their children.
Jay is survived by Tess, his most favorite person and wife of 61 years. He is survived by his son Scott Arrington, wife Victoria and their two children Suzanne and Jacob. Jay also is survived by his daughter Tracey Brown, her husband, Steve and their three children - Cameron and wife Amanda, Katherine and husband, Brooks and Jack. Jay was so proud of his great granddaughter - Olivia Leigh Brown.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Martha Arrington, sister, Gloria Rall and stepsister, Ruth Brownlee.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 11th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at the home of Steve and Tracey Brown (10809 Plumewood Drive, Austin, 78750). Arrangements are by Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills.
