

Juan Mario Gonzalez, a faithful, adventurous, and generous soul, passed away on October 31, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on November 24, 1951, in Alice, Texas, Juan was the second child of Fidencio and Elia Gonzalez, among seven siblings. He spent his early years in Alice before moving to Corpus Christi during his teenage years, where he graduated from Mary Carroll High School. Juan furthered his education at Del Mar College before relocating to Austin, Texas, with his family.
Juan was a dedicated and hard-working individual, joining the Texas Army National Guard and working at the Austin State School before transitioning to Camp Mabry. He bravely served in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 2011.
In 1976, Juan married Carlene Olson, and together they built a loving family with five children: Jennifer, Amanda, Tiffany, Joshua (Stephanie), and Julianna. Juan was also a proud grandfather to Lori, Lily, Arianna, Brenden, and Christianna, and a great-grandfather to Taylor, Avery, and Bayley.
His adventurous spirit was evident in his love for traveling and cruising on his motorcycle with his beloved wife, Carlene. Juan was also a collector of unique alcohol, especially whiskey, as well as knives and guns.
Juan was deeply involved in his community, serving as the Treasurer and Chapter XO for his chapter in the CVMA. He was passionate about working alongside fellow veterans, enjoying the camaraderie they shared during fundraising events and motorcycle rides.
Known for his humor and kind-hearted nature, Juan was a gentle and inspirational figure to many. He was a wonderful husband, father, "grampy," and friend, whose warmth and loyalty touched the lives of those around him.
Funeral services will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752, on November 11, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542, on December 1, 2025, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
Juan Mario Gonzalez will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of bravery, kindness, and inspiration will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
