Judy passed away quietly at home on June 13. She maintained her spirit and energy in the two years we have been fighting cancer until in the last few months, a difficulty with a medical procedure started a downward spiral.
She was a graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelors in Theatre and a Masters in Communication. As a Media Artist, her productions and installations were meant to interest, educate and inspire. After beginning in New York as Assistant Director for Torch Song Trilogy, she returned to Austin to pursue video, theatre and multi media. In the late 80's with her partner Rob and brother Paul, she developed produced and distributed a series of training tapes for computer software. Sagebrush also produced Teacher Teri, My first Ballet Lesson, with Judy scripting and rehearsing the actors as well as developing the music in collaboration with Bonny Holmes. She produced and directed a version of Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe adapting the one woman show to a cast of six. She was always looking for ways to take her projects out of the theatre and staged this production in the upstairs room of the Moondance Restaurant. Sacrificio, a musical she scripted and developed, again with the musical collaboration of Bonny Holmes was performed in an east Austin Park. Fractal Dance, a piece for dancer and three monitors was staged in the Zilker Rose Garden. Always trying to explore boundaries, Judy developed XOzone, a web video drama, before the web was ready. She has recently been developing on-line lessons on Media History inspired by Joseph Straubhaar's Media Now.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Rob Donald; her brother, Paul Thomas.
