Katherine Schaefer

Katherine Schaefer of Austin, Texas, passed away on July 9, 2009, at the age of 95. She was born May 31, 1914 in Taylor, Texas to Lawrence and Victoria Gott. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, and her son Bill. She is survived by her daughter Pat and husband Clint of Austin; sister Mary Lee Schreiber; brother Lawrence Gott; grandsons Jeff and Steven Maddox; and several nieces and nephews. Katherine was first and foremost a homemaker, always taking care of her family. She also was, at various times, a teacher, librarian, newspaper reporter, bookkeeper and nanny. She loved her family, her church (KLCC), fried oysters, chocolate candy, The Price Is Right, and Lawrence Welk. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many wonderful friends. A very special thanks to the nurses and staff at Retirement and Nursing Center for the kindness and care they showed Katherine during her years there. A special thanks also to Aseracare Hospice for the compassion and gentle care they showed her during her final days. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel in Austin and burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Atlanta on Monday, July 13th at 11:00 a.m.
