She met the love of her life, Ed, at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio, and they married on July 31, 1949. The family moved to Austin in 1968. Betty was a longtime secretary at Central Presbyterian Church, a congregation for whom she had great affection. She was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and the Believers' Class. Betty loved gardening, reading and beautiful music. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. To the end, she followed current events and displayed a sharp wit.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the loving and compassionate staffs of Brighton Gardens, Retirement & Nursing Center and Hospice Austin. A special thanks to Yvonne, Guillermo, Cindy, Julianna, Susan, Lisa and the many others who cared for Betty so lovingly in the final weeks. The family also thanks Dr. Maxwell and Fran, as well as Betty and Ed's physician of 40+ years, Dr. Kent Beasley.
