Kathleen Barbour Saqer

surrounded by close family and loved ones. Everyone who knew Kathy felt her fierce loyalty and

compassionate caring nature. She loved cats especially and was a selfless giver to everyone.

Though born in Del Rio, Texas, Kathy was a true Austinite. She graduated with honors from

Austin High School and went on to study at The University of Texas at Austin where she

obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Latin American Studies. She began her career

as an academic advisor, eventually rising to the position of Assistant Director of advising for

both the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA) and the Master’s Program in Accounting

(MPA) in the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin where she assisted students and

faculty for more than 30 years. Her students remember her as a passionate advocate and

extraordinary advisor. She leaves behind her loving husband of 30 years, Sajid “Sarge” Saqer

and two adult children, Nyla Cecilia Saqer and Basheer Tate Saqer. She is also survived by her

sisters Nancy Ann Barbour, Rose Barbour Wilson and Cyndi Barbour, their partners and

spouses, Beckham Dosset, Ron Wilson and Victor Madera, respectively, and several nieces:

Christen Wilson Pearson, Nicole Wilson, Arin Madera and Wendy Madera.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rubin De Celis and his staff at Texas Oncology for their tender

care of Kathy as she battled lung cancer for more than 7 years. In lieu of flowers, please

consider giving to her favorite causes: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, World Wildlife

Federation or The American Lung Association. Details on the memorial service will be

announced at a later date.
