Lai-Ching was known as “Paw Paw” to not only her grandchildren and great-grandchildren but also to most people who knew her. She was born September 10, 1929 in China to the late Yat-Yiu Yu and Oi-Wah Chan. Lai-Ching enjoyed eating good Chinese food and socializing with her family and friends, especially during holiday celebrations. In her spare time, she loved to play Chinese mahjong with her friends and take morning walks at the park. After she had a stroke in 2014, she left Hong Kong to come to the United States to live with her two daughters, Rosa and Pamela. Lai-Ching was vibrant, independent, ready for fun and adventure anytime, and never gave up or quit even when confronted with the most daunting obstacles or challenges. She embodied the expression of “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” She was well-loved by her family and staff at Arden Courts who took good care of her. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her older daughter Rosa and husband Steve, younger daughter Pamela and husband Chi-Hung, granddaughters Kristina and Stephanie, grandsons Lawrence and Ryan, great-grandson Tanner, great-granddaughter Zoey, and her many nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will hold a private graveside service on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
