Born on June 24, 1939, Laura spent most of her adult life in Austin, Texas, before moving in 2019 to Wake Forest, NC, to live with her daughter, Martha Rae Casino; her son-in-law, Owen Casino; and her beloved Grandson, Cameron Casino.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Felts, with whom she shared a life of love, adventure, and world travel. Together they explored many places, creating lasting memories along the way.
She is survived by her children, Scott Ihrig, Tammy Palermo, and Martha Rae Casino; Godson, Michael Handwerger; her siblings, Caesar Amaya, Hector Amaya, Sylvia Handwerger, and Ram Amaya; and extended family and friends who will cherish her memory. Her greatest pride and joy were her many grandchildren — too numerous to list, but each held close to her heart.
Laura worked as a stenographer and secretary before dedicating herself fully to her family as a homemaker. In her youth, she loved to dance, and throughout her life she carried that same joyful spirit. A proud follower of Christ, her faith was an anchor in her life.
She will be remembered as kind and generous — someone who loved shopping for herself but found even greater joy in shopping for others and giving of her time. Her warmth, strength, and loving heart will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Laura’s life will be held on March 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. A reception will be held at the funeral home immediately following the interment.
