

Laura Caldwell White passed away suddenly in an automobile accident on Monday, March 09, 2009. She, along with a stillborn twin, was born on February 24, 1931 in Austin, Texas. In 1936, the family moved to San Angelo where she graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1949. After high school, she attended Draughon's Business College in San Antonio. While in San Antonio, she met Horace Chilton White and they were married on October 18, 1952. They lived in California from 1957 to 1970. Laura had a near fatal automobile accident on May 16, 1967 and she struggled for many years to recover from those injuries. Horace passed away on December 6, 1987. Laura was a lifelong member of Haynie Chapel United Methodist Church and loved her church family, her Emmaus group and singing in the choir. Laura worked for the Texas Department of Health for 15 years and retired in 1997. After retirement, she spent time traveling with friends, reading, quilting, and playing cards with her friends at the South Austin Senior Activity Center. She loved birds, angels and her two beloved Chihuahuas Sarita "Sweetie" and Lily Belle that she affectionately called "The Girls". She loved nothing more than being their "Mom". Laura recently attended her 60th High School reunion in San Angelo and had a great time. Laura is survived by her niece Roanne Roberts Stockman and husband Ron, sister Kay DeVilbiss, brothers Rowe Caldwell, Jr., James Caldwell, and Henry Caldwell. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and lots of good friends. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Horace, parents Rowe & Myrtle Caldwell, sisters Myrtle Faye Weaver, Pat Roberts and her newborn twin. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral South on South Congress. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10am at Haynie Chapel United Methodist Church in Garfield with Rev. Jim Harrell and Rev. Charles Camp officiating. Burial will follow at Haynie Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Haynie Chapel Food Pantry, P.O.
