Laura Pointer Wilkerson

The city of Austin, Texas, and all citizens of the world have lost an epic, bright powerhouse. The ever lovely Laura Pointer Wilkerson passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 10, 2013.

Laura is survived by a large, loving family, including spouse James "Jim" Wilkerson II and her children, John "Jack" Boone and Lucy Caroline. She is also survived by her parents, James "Jim" Raymond and Patricia "Pat" Pointer of Kokomo, IN; brother Daniel "Dan" Pointer and wife Stacey, niece Shayla and nephew Jeffrey--all of Kokomo, IN; father-in-law Jim Wilkerson and mother-in-law Judie Wilkerson of Byram, MS; sister-in-law Corey Boney and husband Bill, nephew Jake and niece Brooke—all of Byram, MS. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jeffrey Allen Pointer.

Laura began her life odyssey as a small-town girl in Kokomo, IN, and graduated high school from Maconaquah High School in 1990 ready to attack the world. She attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and ultimately earned a B.A. in International Studies & Political Science in 1994. After her graduation, Laura remained in Memphis and began her corporate career at AutoZone where she worked for five years, earning several promotions. But then in a bold display of bravery and sense of adventure, Laura and Jim sold their home and just flat-out moved to Austin in 2000 as they could not resist the allure of the city. Laura soon joined Freescale (formerly Motorola) and began a 13-year period of success, promotions and accolades that is ending only due to her passing. Coworkers from around the globe are mourning the untimely passing of a trusted manager, advisor, leader and friend.

And though Laura was certainly accomplished professionally, her greatest success was simply in being a wonderful, generous person--full of honor, integrity, bravery and intelligence. She was an amazing wife and a doting mother who fiercely loved her children. Laura's main hobby was doing thoughtful things for her friends and loved ones, but she also loved to read, laugh, play games, explore good restaurants and tell it like it is.

A visitation is open to the public at Weed-Corley-Fish (3125 North Lamar location) on Friday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the same location.
