

Lawanda Joyce Garner passed away on the 18th of March 2012 in Austin, Texas. She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to Paul and Katherine Garmon on the 26st day of September 1940. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1958. In 1974, Joyce graduated with highest honors from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in accounting. She retired from the Texas State Comptroller Office.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother Katherine Garmon; brother, Butch Garmon; infant sons Mark and Michael, and a grandson, Quincy West.
She is survived by her father, Paul Garmon; uncle, Pete Garmon of Tyler,TX; brothers, Darrel Garmon of Carrolton,TX and Toby Garmon of Longview, TX; sister in law Barbara Garmon of Houston,TX; children; Susan Baker and husband Larry of Longview,TX, John Garner of Frisco, Texas, James Garner and his wife Leah of San Jose, CA, and Sandi West and husband Mark of Longview, TX. Her grandchildren include; Angela Baker Castiglione and her husband Corrado of White Oak,TX , Sarah Baker Urbanek and her husband Kyle and Rachel Baker, all of Longview,TX, Brennan, Jackson and William West of Longview,TX; great granddaughter, Kinzlee Castiglione of White Oak, TX. Joyce left behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Joyce was an independent and determined lady. She was a friend of Bill W. for almost 34 years. She taught her children to stand up for themselves, to never give up, and to go for their dreams.
A memorial service to Celebrate Joyce’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 31st of March 2012, at Riverbend Memorial Gardens in her beloved Austin.
In lieu of flowers, her children suggest a donation to the March of Dimes: NICU Family Support, Austin Division, 11044 Research Blvd, Austin, Texas, 78759. This program supports families touched by premature birth.
