

Lawrence (Larry) Dunn O'Leary passed away Sunday April 12, 2009. He was born August 18, 1932 in San Antonio. He was predeceased by his father Lawrence O'Leary and his mother Nellie Jane Tinsley. Larry was a graduate of Fox Tech, San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the famous 1949 San Antonio "Chili Bowl" whose record attendance still stands today. He received his degree in Business Administration from Texas Western University (now University of Texas-El Paso) in 1954. He proudly served in the U S Navy and received his commission as a Lt. (jg) in May of 1955. After his military service Larry began a 32 ½ dedicated career with Sears and had service in Corpus Christi, Tyler, Longview, Wichita Falls, Arlington, Harlingen, he completed his career in San Antonio, Texas. After retiring in 1986 Larry and his wife Wanda moved to Austin and remained there for 10 years. They moved to Shiner, Texas in June, 1986 and during his years in Shiner he was known as "The Sign Man" for the parish of St. Cyril and Methodius Church. He took great pride in maintaining the Reader Board for the parish and always used his great Irish wit and humor for the Board. He was also active in the Main Street program in Shiner and willingly served as Treasurer under the guidance of Jean Kaspar who served as the Chairman of the Board for the Main Street program during its tenure in Shiner. Larry and Wanda moved back to Austin in 2007 because of his health. Larry was a kind and gentle man who loved his church and no matter where he lived he always served his church in some form of lay ministry in each city in which he resided. He was also involved in civic activities in some of the cities in which he lived, and was active in the school activities of the schools which his children attended. He was a loving, patient and caring husband to Wanda, his wife, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. He was a good and loving father to his children Louri O'Leary Harrison (Austin) and Tarri Miller (Arlington). He is survived by his grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan and Madison Miller (they were all the 'apple of his eye', and by his wonderful son-in-law Jim Harrison (Austin). Larry was a member of KC Council No. 1017 as well as being a member of the local St. Stephens Society #112 for the KJT (Catholic Union of Texas). Visitation hours will be from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home's location at N. Lamar and 32nd Street in Austin, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, April 16, 2009 there will be viewing at 12:00 p.m., Rosary at 1:00 p.m., and Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m., all to be held at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Yoakum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice, or potted plants.
