LeAnn Ervin Artis, of Austin, Texas, passed away on November 3, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Oceanside, California, on September 16, 1955, to Lawrence and Evelyn Ervin, joining her sister Judi. She began her Texas adventures at the age of 6 in San Marcos before settling in LaMarque, TX, where she graduated High School. She led the LMHS Band as a Twirler, Trumpet Player and Drum Major and was also a member of the Swim Team. She then graduated from Southwest Texas State University, where her career in Education began.
She started at Northwest Elementary School in Pflugerville, TX as a teacher and then pursued getting her master’s degree in educational counseling. After getting her masters, she rejoined Northwest as a pivotal part of the leadership team as the school counselor. She spent an incredible 22 years (1989-2011) at Northwest Elementary and some of her fondest friends and memories came from there. After retiring from Northwest, she began a busy private counseling practice where she had the honor of working with wonderful clients for more than a decade (2010-2021)
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband Dr. Ron Artis, their 30th Wedding Anniversary is December 14, 2021. She was the most devoted and understanding mother to her four daughters: Lauren Long (Mark), Becky Odé (Andy), Jackie Tuten (Josh) and Ashley Schmidt (Tommy). However, her grandchildren truly captured her heart: Brianna & Madeline Long, TJ Schmidt, and Ben & Hailey Tuten. She is also survived by Judi Ervin Baird (Tim), her sister and lifelong partner in crime, and niece Katie Baird Collins (Bo). She was predeceased by her niece Nikki Baird Buchholz (Michael).
LeAnn was an incredible cook (taking after her parents), master of Sudoku, compassionate friend, biggest cheerleader of the Trojan Belles Dance team, and an incredible GiGi to her beloved grandchildren. She had an amazing sense of humor, especially when joined by her friends and colleagues. She never met as stranger as she was warm, funny, loving and gave the best hugs ever. She will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to St. Jude's Hospital or the Shriners Burn Institute in Galveston.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wcfishnorth.com for the Artis family.
