

Leroy was born at the family home in Pflugerville, Texas on May 9, 1918. He was the fourth of 11 children born to Carl and Tina Sundbeck. They lived in the Decker, Sprinkle and Manor communities and he graduated from Manor High School in 1937. Leroy joined the army in 1942, served his country in World War II and returned home on January 16, 1946. After his return from WWII, he began his career of 33 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone before his retirement in 1980. He had many interests including real estate, lake property, washateria, gardening, yard work, and the Decker Cemetery, as well as many church activities and jobs. Leroy was a lifetime member of the First Evangelical Free Church where he served as Trustee, Boys Brigade Leader, Usher and in many other capacities. He was known for his love of gardening and his always perfectly manicured lawn. Leroy was an award-winning member of the Zilker Garden Club for many years.
Leroy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Annabel Anderson Sundbeck, in July 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Lillian Swenson, Leonard Sundbeck, Wenfield Sundbeck, Margaret Lind, and LaVerne Hart. Other family members that preceded Leroy are Elmer Swenson, Eldora Sundeck, Nancy Sundbeck, June Sundbeck, Eldon Lind, Kenneth Hawkinson, Harvey Gustafson, Terry Gustafson, Georgeann Pettus, Morris Swenson, Rebecca Hart, James DeLaCruz and Bradley Jefferies.
Survivors include his siblings, Marvin (Patti) Sundbeck, Charlotte Hawkinson, Jewel Sundeck, Georgia Gustafson, and Carl (Emely) Sundbeck, Jr.; sister-in-law, Gladys Sundbeck and a host of Sundbeck and Anderson nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar. Services will be Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church, 4220 Monterey Oaks. Burial will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Free Church or to Hospice Austin.
