Lesley "Les" Hood, 69, joined his Heavenly Father in the early morning of November 3, 2016 in Georgetown. This was in the midst of a bout of pneumonia exacerbated by a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer caused by direct and prolonged exposure to Agent Orange. Les was born on February 6, 1947 in Alvin, TX to parents, Claude and Mildred Hood. He married Nancy Mandeville in 1967. He retired from the Air Force in 1988 after serving his country for 22 years. During his long service to his country, he was on the ground in Vietnam and later worked as an Air Force Recruiter.
Les was blessed with a large and loving family. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Brian Weddell of Cedar Park; his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Christine Hood of Houston; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sue Hood of San Antonio; his brothers, Presley and Tim; seven grandchildren, David, Nicholas, Emmanuelle, Ethan, Miles, McKenzie, and Kaylee; and assorted nieces, nephews, and cousins with whom he had treasured relationships.
A viewing will be on Saturday, November 5th from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Les's life. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Mill Baptist Church in Austin followed with a reception. Les will be interred in a ceremony on Monday, November 7th at 9:00 a.m at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to causes that were very dear to Les: Angel House Soup Kitchen in Austin (angelhouse-abc.com) or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org).
