
Janet, I'm sorry to hear about George's passing.  I'll always remember my time at the USAO, and going bowling with you two after work.  I still can't get the peanut brittle the way George did.  Ray.

Janet--I was saddened to learn that George had passed.  Those of us at the U.S. Attorney's Office had great affection for him.  Afterall, it's easy to realy like a guy that loved football, was good at making and sharing candy , and married a pretty Edison girl. I have never forgotten nor will I forget what a great and happy person George was everytime I saw him when he would stop by the office to see Janet. according to the guestbook, I'm limited to 1000 characters. I'll try to share my memories of George in 1000 characters.  "Serious/Curious George": Someone could write a book and use George as the main character. I met George at the age of 18 in 1965 when I arrived at VF-13 for my first assignment out of boot camp. I was a young man with little direction or understanding of what the world offered or expected from me. I'm not sure why George took me under his wing. Perhaps because he saw my lightening typing speed of 35 wpm - After all, that short finger of his slowed him down on the keyboard. Perhaps he saw more in me than I saw in myself. Perhaps I was a way to neutralize all the women in his life - that would be the 5 daughters and a spunky and spirited wife. I guess I'll find out when I get to heaven - I'll ask him.  I think God brings people together for a reason and I think he brought George and I together.   George was serious about his work. He taught me to be serious about my work. He was a perfectionist in many ways - whether he was getting a plane ready for flight or making peanut brittle - he ensured every detail was examined. When he wrote letters, he would write it, re-write it, and then re-write that. I wonder why I do that too. He took pride in doing a job "well done".  Then there was the Curious part of George. He liked to investigae and research things. He wanted to know the most about his subject matter. He examined details about stuff - just stuff sometimes. His goal was to ensure when he researched a topic that it was "well done".  Much of my life today is a function of Curious/Serious George. He inspired me to get an education and do the best I can at all that I do. He taught a boy from Minnesota to be a man in the world. He taught me to be Curious and Serious. I thank him for that. Along with me, I think God would say to him about his life - George, Job "well done". I'll miss him but his teachings will continue through me.  roger a stoick
