Lilla was born on March 31, 1937 in Stecoah, NC – a small rural town located in the Great Smokey Mountains. When she was 6 years old, her family moved to Nebo, NC where she lived until her high school graduation. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Kinston, NC and worked at Stallings Air Force Base where she met and married, John, the love of her life, a young Air Force pilot. This began a 30-year Air Force life with her husband. In the ensuing years they lived in various cities across the United States, Japan, and Okinawa before finally settling down in Austin, TX for the next 51 yrs. She and her husband loved to travel. They visited many US and international destinations during their marriage.
She was a housewife, mother, and career woman. Her work career included employment at the Internal Revenue Service and then in various real estate offices. During her time with the IRS, she was the supervisor of a small poorly performing department. Before she left, she successfully raised the departments performance rating from ninth of nine to first, and, was identified as one of the Most Outstanding employees in the Austin Regional office. In real estate, due to her attention to detail, personality, and love of people, she was recognized as “The Outstanding Outgoing and Incoming Referral Coordinator” of a large national network.
Lilla is survived by her children; Mike (wife Janne) David, and Lois (husband Michael); grandchildren Jeff, Justin, Aaron, and Divina; great grandsons Jeremiah and Clayton; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, John; parents, Carl and Lona Mae Jenkins; brothers Elmo Jenkins and Harold Jenkins (wife Grace); sisters Wilda Blalock (husband George); Darlene Cherry (husband Richard); and Jeannie Blevins (husband John).
Lilla was loved by all who knew her and will be missed. She was a wonderful wife, life mate, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
