Lillian Caldwell Scott, age 90, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on January 5, 2011, in Colorado Springs. Lillian was born on July 30, 1920 in Greenville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Lillian Scott, her brother Wally Scott, Jr., and her niece Cathy Scott McElroy.
Lillian was a graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler and the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a degree in Physical Education. In 1944, during WWII, Lillian joined the Waves and after serving in the Bronx, NY and Cecil Field, Florida, she was honorably discharged in March 1946.
Lillian taught physical education in the Houston and Austin school districts before moving to Colorado Springs where she enjoyed a long teaching career at Palmer High School.
After retiring from teaching in 1981, Lillian expanded her antique business, specializing in antique postcards. Lillian enjoyed fishing and hiking, was a football season ticket holder at the US Air Force Academy and enjoyed watching the Texas Longhorns on TV. Lillian loved the outdoors, especially the wild and back-country areas of Colorado and Texas. Lillian had a great sense of humor and was always a pleasure to be with, but above all, Lillian was a faithful friend, daughter, sister and aunt, and we will all miss her deeply.
Lillian is survived by her two nephews, Wally Scott III and Willy Scott, and their respective family members, including Marietta, Colly, Cile and Charlie Scott; Janet, Ali, Christy and Win Scott; Cathy Scott McElroy’s children, Andy and Cate McElroy; sister-in-law Cile Scott; and her dearest friends in Colorado Springs, Nadine Riley, and Buz and Sally Maisano.
