Lisa B Hazel nee Brunet born December 14, 1937, in Albany, New York died on February 28, 2026, in Austin, TX. Lisa, aka, Lili, our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother had a heart overflowing in love for family, friends, colleagues, and many other people who passed through her life. She maintained the mind of a beginner, “begin again, begin anytime, begin anywhere …”. She would not be pleased if we listed her degrees, her accomplishments, her survival in a long and complicated life. Rather, we share the words she often used to end many cards, notes, conversations, and visits: “I love you forever and I like you for always.” Now, we say the same to her as she enters the mystery of eternal life.
As a lifelong progressive Democrat and enthusiastic Vatican II Catholic, any remembrance of her to a cause of your choice will be dearly appreciated. The staff at Christopher House (Hospice Austin) brought much peace to Lisa and her family in her final days. Please consider a contribution to this sacred place in her honor.
Lisa’s survivors include daughter Teresa Hammett and her husband Jim Carey, son Louis Nicholas Hammett III and his wife Nancy, and daughter of the heart Patricia Garthune; grandchildren Louis Nicholas Hammett IV and his wife Amy, Olivia Pitzini, Rienne Hammett, and Caden Hammett; great grandchildren Leighton and James Hammett; and many worldwide friends. May her memory be as a blessing to us all.
The family will celebrate Lisa’s life at a private memorial service.
