Lloyd was born in Merrill Wisconsin, near Wausau, on December 30, 1930. Lloyd graduated from Merrill High School, married his wife Arlene, and enlisted in the Air Force. He rejected being assigned to Bangor, Maine, and had to accept the next placement, Austin, Texas. After the Air Force, Lloyd attended The University of Texas at Austin graduating with a mechanical engineering degree and his PE license. He and Arlene settled in Austin where Lloyd was employed by the City of Austin, Power and Light, to oversee construction and operation of power plants, Seaholm, Decker, and Fayette. He’d rather work for the city than a small start-up in a portable, Texas Instruments. He was also active in the Lutheran Church serving as President of the Lutheran Layman League at Trinity Lutheran in Austin, and a member of Redeemer Lutheran for 40 years.
Lloyd’s passion was his family, where every family member held a special place in his heart, and every opportunity was seized upon for a family gathering. His family devotion allowed him to go out of his way to help them caring for grandchildren, building furniture, or providing financial assistance. Growing up on a farm he raised many animals around Austin including cows, horses, sheep, dogs, cats, rabbits, and chickens. With his engineering degree, he built his home which supported his desire to work with his hands and woodworking. Among his passions were square dancing, dominoes, card games like Sheep’s head, Sudoku, reading the newspaper, and German family ancestry research requiring travel to Poland since the area the Storm family left was annexed after the war. He enjoyed watching sports, most especially football with the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, or Green Bay Packers.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Central on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home on Parkcrest, officiated by Reverend Kevin Westergren of Redeemer followed by burial at Austin Memorial Park.
