Lois Thrasher Agnor Smith, born July 25, 1930, in Marshall, Texas went to glory on January 31, 2021. Having lived with the effects of dementia for many years, Lois passed away peacefully in Boulder, Colorado in the home of her daughter, Amy, and her husband, Doug.
Lois is a graduate of Marshall High School and of the University of Texas Austin with a degree in Business. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and often shared fond stories of those years and her life long friends. In every city her young family moved with David's Shell transfers, she always connected with the local Pi Phi Alumnae groups for an instant set of new friends. In 1997, David surprised her with a 50-year Pi Phi Golden Arrow pin in recognition of her life time love for her sorority. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
As a young woman, Lois worked for Humble Oil for a short time in Houston, whereupon she had a blind date with David Smith. They were married in Austin, Texas on August 10, 1957. In later years she donated a lot of her time to philanthropic efforts as well as working in an antique shop in La Canada, California.
Known as “Sita,” she was renowned for her love of flowers and providing lovely floral arrangements for the church altar from her garden for many years, singing (including the choir at La Canada United Methodist), and searching for treasures in antique stores (especially pieces of silver). Sita never met a stranger and was a beloved friend to many.
She was a loving wife to David, and while she was the life of the party and wanted to be the last to leave, David was known to prompt her when “it was time to go.”
Lois is preceded in death by her husband David Jean Smith whom she was married to for almost 50 years. Surviving children are Dudley (Marcie) Smith of Caldwell, Texas, Claudia (Rick) Geyer of Austin, Texas, and Amy (Doug) Engelhardt of Boulder, Colorado.
Grandchildren: Betty (Michiel) Persyn, Crawford (Sarah) Smith, David (Emily) Geyer, Marshall (fiancee Clare) Geyer, Catherine Geyer, Brian (Olivia) Engelhardt, Emily Engelhardt, and William Engelhardt.
