Lucille A. Brightbill Stegman

Lucille A. Stegman, age 83, passed away late Tuesday evening, October 30, 2007 in Austin, Texas. She was born on September 2, 1924 in Elyria, Ohio to Roy and Alta Brightbill. Lucille was not one to sit back and watch the world go by. She was a graduate of the Oberlin School of Commerce and a flight attendant for United Airlines during World War II. After moving to Texas with her husband Hal in 1951, she became involved with the fast growing community of Westlake and joined six other visionary women in the creation of the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve. She was also involved in other Westlake beginnings such as the Westbank Community Library and the Camelot Neighborhood Association. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Harold L. (Hal) Stegman. Survivors include her son, Harold L. (Chip) Stegman and his wife Terry of Austin; daughter, Ann Stegman Thames and her husband Richard of Carmine, Texas; and granddaughters, Stacy Stegman of Austin and Michelle Stegman Wright and her husband Chris of San Antonio. She is also survived by her sister Jean and husband Rick Kennedy of Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Lucille touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her uplifting spirit and unending generosity will be dearly missed by all friends and family. A private family graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio on Monday morning. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. also on Monday, November 5, 2007 at Westlake Presbyterian Church, 7127 Bee Caves Rd.
