Lupe Castillo Ojeda

She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Cruz Castillo, her sisters Irene, Emilia, Petra, Natividad, Margarita, and Felisa, her bothers Faustino and Francisco, and her husband, Charles Ojeda.

She is survived by her son, Edward Castillo, step-children, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many many friends and caring neighbors.

Lupe was born November 11, 1933 in Bastrop, Texas. She graduated from Bastrop High School as valedictorian at the age of 16 in 1950. Later that year, her family moved to Austin. She worked from the time she graduated until the age of 62 when she retired. She spent most of her working years as a purchasing agent for Monarch Paper Co. She devoted her life to raising her son and caring for her parents. In 1981, she married the love of her life and cared for him until his death in 2003.

She remained active and independent until she suffered a fall and broke her hip in 2019.

She traveled from 2008 to 2017 to Michigan, Niagara Falls, Canada, San Francisco, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, Washington DC, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, The Great Salt Lake, Yellowstone National Park, cruises to many islands in the Caribbean, Aruba, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Alaska. While in Alaska her niece took her on a flight which landed on a glacier next to Denali. She also traveled to Oregon and the Columbian River Gorge, Washington state, and Mount Rainier National Park, as well as Vancouver B.C. Her Final year of travel included all the New England states and Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec.

She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

A visitation for Lupe will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704 followed by a recitation of holy rosary at 7:00 PM A mass of christian burial will occur Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Peter Apostle Church, 4600 E Ben White Blvd, Austin, TX 78741 with committal service afterward at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78704.
