Lydia Barba, beloved mother and sister in Christ, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2020 at St. David’s Hospital in Round Rock, TX. She was a native Austinite, born the eldest of four children to Louis Martinez and Henrietta Bange Martinez. Her siblings, Louis Albert Martinez, David Martinez and Yvonne Martinez all preceded her in death, as did her parents. She leaves behind her four children from her marriage to Peter Barba; daughter, Deborah Siegert (Rick) of Cedar Park, TX; Stephen Barba (Carol) of Round Rock, TX; Susanna Barney (Andrew) of Austin, TX; and Asa Barba (Melissa) of The Colony, TX. She was blessed to be grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
During her working life, Lydia was a consummate professional serving as a State employee in her earlier years and moving on to working for the Social Security Administration for 16 years. She retired, but decided to return to work, where she joined the staff at Camp Mabry; she served as an Executive Assistant to a special group of Colonels. She retired in 2001 and enjoyed pursuing her personal interests of being a grandmother and serving with her Bible study group, The Seasoned Sisters. She was loved by many, and many have assured us that she was the sweetest soul they’d ever met. She retired to Maple Ridge Gracious Living Community, an independent living facility, where she made and enjoyed dear friends and community family.
The family would like to thank all the active and caring directors at the Maple Ridge facility for their care, kindness and uplifting spirit. This was Mom’s final residence and we’re so happy and proud of her
independence, spirit and strength.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her personal caregiver and nurse, Connie Hayden, who was always by her side. We couldn’t have done it without her.
A celebration of Lydia’s journey will be held at the Maple Ridge reception room after her Memorial on Friday, February 7, 2020. The service will begin at 11:30 AM. The family welcomes all attendees to share in fellowship and a light lunch after the service.
A special thank you to our Pastor, Daniel Elvelyck, of Reach Church in Austin, TX who will deliver the eulogy and selected prayers.
MAY THE LOVE AND FAVOR OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
REST UPON YOU—1 Corinthians 16:23
