

Born July 2, 1923, in Yoakum, Texas, Magdalene grew up in Central Texas, and attended Southwest Texas State University. In 1943, she married Maurice K. Sparkman. During the marriage that lasted almost 40 years, she traveled to Europe and around the United States during Maurice's 20 years in the Army. Afterwards they settled in Austin and raised their daughter, Marlene. Later in life, Magdalene enjoyed oil painting and became active in many of the senior dance clubs in the Austin area. She was also an avid gardener and seamstress.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Sparkman of Pflugerville; brothers Frank Nixon of Odem, Texas, Faybert Nixon and wife, Barbara of Luling, Texas, and several nephews and nieces. Magdalene was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Lillie Nixon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd, from 6 to 8 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish, 2620 S. Congress, Austin, Texas. Graveside services will be on Thursday, November 4th, at 2 pm at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 South I H 35, Austin, Texas.
