

Margaret Elizabeth (Peggy) Bronson Smith died on April 15, 2017 in Austin, TX, after a brief illness. She was born on November 25, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio to Helen Sellers Bronson and James Bartle Bronson and grew up in Rolla, Missouri. Peggy graduated from the University of Missouri in 1945 with a degree in Journalism where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She worked as an editor for the Journal of Gerontology at Washington University where she met her husband, David E. Smith, M.D. They were married in 1948 and they enjoyed homes in St. Louis, Charlottesville, Philadelphia and New Orleans before retiring to Galveston, TX. They moved to Austin, TX in 2014 with their daughter, Ann. Peggy tirelessly served numerous volunteer organizations, particularly the University of VA Hospital Auxiliary, The University of Pennsylvania's Nearly New Shop, and The Ronald McDonald House of Galveston. She was an active member of the University League in Charlottesville, The Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia, Beta Club of Galveston as well as her book and bridge clubs. Her real priority however, was her family.
Peggy is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, David English Smith; daughter, Ann Smith Elbert, of Austin; son David Bronson Smith (Jane) of Dallas;
and daughter, Marrie Smith of Dallas. She has four grandchildren: Jennifer Fudge (Adrian), of Austin; Claire Reddick (Stefan), of Dallas; Mike Elbert (Mary), of
Panama City, FL; and Steve Elbert of Lake Jackson, TX and 5 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bronson Sellers Smith of
Dallas and son-in-law, James Elbert of Galveston.
There will be no service, per her request, and a private burial in Charleston, MO at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smile Train which was her favorite charity.
