Maria Rosita Montoya, 88 years old born October 18, 1937, in Lockhart, TX to Petra and Crescensio Mojica. Rosie took her last breath surrounded by her family on May 19, 2026, right after her husband, Nano, of 67 years told her “Say Goodnight to Mom”.
Our Mother never let us forget that she was born in Lockhart, TX. Even with her dementia she never forgot it. She always talked about all the dances that were celebrated on the “Plataforma”.
Our Mother, Roise, is the youngest of 9 children. She is predeceased by 7 of her siblings. Blass Mojica Sr., Benita Castro, Epifania Ancira, Petra Zendejas, Pedro Mojica, Sister (Martina) Mary Felice, Sabina Cardenas and survived by her loving sister Tomasa Guerra. Mom also grew up with her cousin Guadelupe Mojica (Wally) and nephew Blass Mojica Jr. AKA “Sonny”, predeceased by both and she always asked for them. Remembering the times when they would always get in trouble but as she said, “We never got caught!” LOL
Our Mother was taken out of school at a young age to help take care of her Father’s business needs. She would drive her father back and forth to Lubbock, TX because he was going blind. She made sure the workers were paid on time and would take care of whatever business needs arose. She grew up when picking cotton was a job, she had to pick 1,000 pounds of cotton a day and believe it or not, those were some of the greatest memories of her life.
Our Mother always wanted to go back to school, and she promised her father that she would. Our mother got her high school degree and later after getting married and having raised three kids she went back to school to become an LVN. She was proud to always say “I am ACC”, Austin Community College. She loved being a nurse. She said working at the Blackstock Clinic was the best job she ever had. She loved all her doctors, Dr. Blackstock, Dr. Bell, Dr. Patsy Jones, Dr. Russel, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Guadalupe Zamora, Dr. Krienke and Dr. David Wright. Mom loved being a nurse, she worked at Seton Hospital, St. David’s Hospital, and at the State Hospital on Lamar. She taught religious family planning classes at St. Julia’s Catholic Church and many years ago, as a parishioner she enjoyed making tamales and cakes for their annual Jamaica.
Our whole family would like to give a big thank you to Enhabit Hospice especially for all the great care under Dr. Anna Vu Wallace, Molly Heath N.P., Gracie Lopez the social worker, Pastor Dr. Bruce Lininger for his great music and spiritual counseling, Navid Bera Oliva and Martha Gomez for their care to our mother but most especially to Pam Nellis RN the BEST hospice nurse and a truly special friend. We could not have gotten through this transition without her. God Bless you all.
Roise is survived by her husband of 67 years Reynaldo (Nano) Montoya, three children: Phyllis Montoya-Gerke (Carl), Joshua Montoya (friend Christine Valdez) and Jackie Montoya Cervantes (Carlos). Grandchildren: Ike Garcia Jr., Joshua Montoya Jr., Amriss Montoya and Great-grandson Zayden Montoya. Lisa Perez Montoya, Mother of Joshua and Amriss Montoya, and Roise’s little Shih Tzu, Chanail AKA “Janelle”. And all her extended nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to thank all friends and family members who sent prayers and came by to help make our mother’s transition much more of a blessing than we ever could have imagined.
Thank you also to her doctors, Dr. Edward Chafizadeh, Dr. Peter Woolen, Dr. Thomas Blevins and Dr. Nilin Rao for taking special care of our mother throughout the years.
