Maria Socorro (Cora) Perez, age 75, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Lakeway, Texas. She was born on June 5, 1949, in Austin, Texas, to Annie and Jose Perez, who have preceded her in death. She was the oldest of four children and a student of the world due to her travels as a military brat.
Cora dedicated her life to helping others, especially during their most challenging times. She was a constant source of support, always willing to lend an ear, offer guidance, or provide a comforting presence when life threw its hardest punches. Cora wore many hats throughout her life - as a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, advisor, healer, and, of course, chef. Her love for cooking brought joy to her family, and she found great happiness in cheering on her boys at sporting events. Her grandsons were her pride and joy, and the bond they shared was one of deep affection. Her warm hugs, healing kisses, and encouraging words will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but none more than her daughters and grandsons, who will carry her love and spirit with them always.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Patricia Cardenas and Nicole and Luis Herrera; grandsons Matthew, Noah, and Benjamin Herrera; sisters Melba Perez (Debbie Wallis) and Virginia Mindieta (Edward Mindieta), brother Roy Perez, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends whose lives Cora touched are invited to her visitation at Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W William Cannon Dr. Austin, Texas from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 24th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Emmaus Catholic Parish, 1718 Lohmans Crossing Rd Austin, TX at 10 a.m. on March 25, 2025. Burial will proceed immediately at Assumption Cemetery.
