Marie Massey

Marie was preceded in death by Hobby G. Massey, her husband of 57 years (until 1996); infant daughter Susan Kay Massey; 3 sisters, Gladys Gerlock, Eunice Young, Velma Decoursy; and brothers Emmett, Oscar, R.P., McAllan and Wade.

Marie's parents moved to Harlingen, TX in 1927, and she lived there until moving to Austin in 1952. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Harlingen for several years, and in Austin for Southwestern Bell at the State Capitol Building. Marie was a volunteer for the City of Austin Mueller Airport, and for Meals on Wheels for home bound through Hyde Park Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday School.

Marie left Hyde Park Baptist Church with hundreds of its members to establish and form the new Austin Baptist Church in Austin, where she remained a member until her death.

Memorial contributions should be made directly to Austin Baptist Church, 7016 Ribelin Ranch Drive, Austin, TX 78750. Marie is survived by her only son, Gary Massey of Austin, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held Monday, November 24, at 1:00 PM at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, TX with David Proctor of Austin Baptist Church presiding.
