With great sorrow, but also great gratitude, we share the passing of MARION SHELTON BENNETT. She was a woman of great tenderness who blessed our lives with her loving heart, her caring soul and her sharing hand. Though we are deeply saddened by our loss, we take solace in believing that she finally joins with her true love, HENRY WAYNE BENNETT, who has been patiently waiting 39 years for her to complete her many tasks on this earth. He understood she needed time to raise eight children; Pat, Mike, Tim, Nell, Teresa, Mary, Betsy and Danny; and to support them by volunteering with their many Boy Scout, Girl Scout, musical and sports activities through the years. She needed time to instill commitment to our country, having 3 children proudly serve our country in the Marines, Navy and Air Force. She needed time to impress the importance of education. Though a single mother, she ensured that each of her children had the opportunity to seek higher education. She had children in college from 1967 through 1989; 5 received undergraduate and graduate degrees, producing a teacher, a nurse, a pilot and 5 who achieved success in the business world. She also needed time to bring her extended SHELTON family together by organizing and opening her home and heart to her many relatives in an annual SHELTON family reunion. But now, her tasks are complete; having been an only child, she leaves her 8 children, 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, relatives and many, many friends better off for having been blessed enough to have known, loved and shared their lives with such a truly remarkable woman. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 27 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home South Congress. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28 at 9:30 AM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home South Congress. Burial will take place at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 29.
