

Marjorie Meacham Bounds, March 7, 1927 - March 12, 2016. Marjorie Bounds was born March 7, 1927 in Ft Worth, Texas, Daughter of William Alfred Meacham and Rebecca Meacham, sister of William, Calvin and Jane Meacham. As a youth she lived in Ft Worth, Texas and graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1944. She earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music Education at North Texas University where she met and married her husband Charles Evans Bounds. She and Charles spent their early careers teaching music in Harlingen, San Angelo and Kingsville, Texas. They moved to Austin in 1961 when Charles began attending the University of Texas for his Ph.D. They raised their family in Austin and remained there until their deaths.
Marjorie was an accomplished musician who played piano and cello. She and Charles played in the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. During her early years in Austin, her string quartet was invited to perform for Lady Bird Johnson, First Lady to LBJ. She was active in church music throughout her life as organist, chorister, and guitarist. While teaching at All Saints Episcopal Church, she wrote and published children's liturgies and original music which are still in use at many churches throughout the country.
Marjorie was a gifted artist and enjoyed watercolor painting as a hobby. She won first place in the Waterloo Watercolor Group’s 2001 Spring Show. Her art was inspired by her love of gardening and the outdoors. She appreciated many abiding friendships that developed through the Austin watercolor community.
Marjorie is survived by her family, son Chris Bounds of Austin, daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and William Teasdale of Longmont, Colorado, brother William R. Meacham of Ft Worth, and four grandchildren: Ben and Nicole Bounds of Ft Worth, and Annalise and Serafina Teasdale of Longmont, CO. She loved and lived for her family and friends who cherished her deeply.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March, 17 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at 8134 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions will be gratefully received by St Matthew's Episcopal Church in Austin.
