Marjorie Taber Ogle

Marjorie Taber Ogle, age 90, passed from this life on October 11, 2006 at her home. She was born in Cameron, Texas on May 31, 1916 to Arthur and Minnie Taber. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles Melson Ogle. Her family has many wonderful memories of Margie – affectionately known as “The Warden,” “Gran,” “Red,” “Ms. Marg,” “Little Margie,” “Mother” and “Mom.” Touching peoples lives and bringing them joy was her goal. Her humor and witty personality will long be remembered. The legacy she leaves has truly made this world a better place. Marjorie was a life long resident of Austin. She was a 1932 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School where she served as a cheerleader and member of the Red Jackets. Her business career spanned 66 years. She began work operating a “sodie-water” stand at the Old Confederate Soldiers’ Home in Austin where her father served as Superintendent. She worked for the state of Texas for almost four decades. Her career with the state included work at the Department of Public Safety, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Secretary of State. She completed her state service spending 21 years as Executive Secretary of the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners. Margie was a charter member of the Texas State Agency Business Administrators Association, holding an honorary lifetime membership in that group. She was also a charter member of Capitol Credit Union and served on its board of directors. “Miss TPEA” was a founding charter member of Texas Public Employees Association and served as its first secretary in 1946-47. She was active in TPEA Capitol Chapter 2 throughout her state career and is a charter member and past president of TPEA Retirees Chapter 149. As a result of long and faithful service, TPEA named their Austin headquarters office building at 512 East 11th Street the Marjorie Taber Ogle Building in her honor. Upon retiring from public service she began her second career as a Real Estate Broker, earning her GRI designation in 1967. She retired from active service in 2004. She was honored as a Lifetime Member by Austin Board of Realtors. She was one of the founders of the Small Office Realtors group which for over 25 years has served hundreds of her fellow Realtors with quality programs. She was active in Womens’ Council of Realtors, Realty Roundup Committee, and Most Worthy Citizen Committee. She helped establish the “Nitty Gritty of Real Estate” scholarship fund and participated in many other ABOR functions. Because of her wise counsel and involvement in the ABOR’s community service outreach, in 1988 Marjorie was honored as Realtor of The Year by Austin Realtors. Marjorie was instrumental in establishing the Suburban Club in West Austin. The Ogle family became members of Tarrytown United Methodist Church in 1955 where she has remained a faithful member of the Dorcas Sunday School class. Survivors include one sister, Jean Taber Sutherland; and three children, daughter Peggy Ann and husband John P. Maxwell, grandsons Kyle and Clark Maxwell; son, Charles Melson Ogle, II, granddaughters Ashley and Taylor Ogle; and son Perry Taber Ogle and wife Loretta Ogle, grandson Warren Ogle and granddaughter Alisha Ogle, mother of great-granddaughter Karah Pena and other relatives and a host of friends. A private family burial will be Wednesday, October 18th at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 2006 at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial celebration of her life is planned for 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Tarrytown United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Tarrytown United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin, or your favorite charity.
