Martha graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1957, where she enjoyed picnics on the lawn and building her calf muscles on the steep campus hills.
The earliest years of her marriage to Bill were spent living on base overseas and all around the United States. Bill retired from the Air Force in 1972, and the family settled in Austin, TX. Martha loved teaching children to read at Smith Elementary School in Del Valle for over 40 years, spending several days a week tutoring even after retirement. She formed a beautiful community at Woodlawn Baptist Church, volunteering at VBS and other events for more than 50 years. Martha was an avid reader, often finishing an entire novel in a day. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, watching children swim in the pool, and enjoying a chocolate milkshake afterward. She was a sweet, selfless woman whose love will live on in everyone who knew her.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, R.N. and Dena, brother Charles, husband Bill, and son David.
She is survived by daughter Susan King; grandsons, Jason and wife Jana Crosby, Cole Crosby and fiancée Jessica Snipes, and Drew King; granddaughters Samantha and husband Mitchell McPherson, and Mandi Funderburgh; great-grandsons Cohutta and Calhoun Crosby, Owen McPherson, and Caden Crosby.
