Martha Virginia Hutchinson Moore She was born Martha Virginia Hutchinson in Beaumont, Texas, September 15, 1932. She was the daughter of Owen B. Hutchinson Sr. and Florence Sherman Hutchinson. Martha graduated valedictorian of her senior class of 1949, South Park High School, Beaumont, Texas. After graduating from Lamar Junior College, Beaumont, in May 1951, she attended the University of Texas at Austin. After two years at UT she graduated in May 1953 earning a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Library Science. While attending UT in 1951, she met George Graham Moore, Sr., who had graduated from Paris Jr. College, Paris, Texas in 1951. George was from Bagwell, Red River County, Texas. They were married at First Baptist Church Chapel, Beaumont, Texas, August 15, 1953. They were looking forward to celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 15. After teaching three years at Becker Elementary as a teacher/librarian, she took off time to have her two children, Virginia Suzanne Moore, born 1957 and George Graham Moore, Jr., born 1960. In September 1966 she returned to work in the Austin Independent School District as librarian of Travis Heights Elementary. She worked there 28 years until she retired in May of 1994 with 31 years service. Martha loved the elementary aged children, particularly the little ones. She enjoyed having contact with all of the children in school in the library, at one time or another. She was a devoted mother, educator, and wife. She loved nature, flowers, antiques, and working with children. She was known for her teddy bear collection, which she utilized fully in helping the young students to learn by reading to the bears while sitting in one of her rocking chairs. Martha had fought a long courageous battle against the ravages of diabetes. Her family and friends will miss her but she has gone to a better place with her Lord whom she has known since childhood. God was merciful in sparing her from a protracted helpless state and took her to her reward quickly and with little pain. Her family encourages friends and acquaintances to honor her life and memory by helping some of the many who are alone and without family help. Martha is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, George G. Moore, Sr.; her daughter V. Suzanne Moore Mayne and her husband Tony of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and son G. Graham Moore, Jr. and wife Alice Hall Moore of Austin. She has no grandchildren, and is survived by one brother, Owen B. Hutchinson, Jr. of Fairhope, Alabama along with his wife Linda and nieces and nephews; and her only remaining uncle and aunt, LaVelle and Omera Hutchinson, of Alexandria, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 6:00 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2003, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home.
