

Mary Gail Heatly Arnold 1936-2004 Mary Gail Heatly Arnold died Friday, May 7th in St. Davids Hospital of complications from rheumatoid arthritis. Mary Gail was born in Tyler, Texas on August 18, 1936. She was the second daughter of Sidney A. Heatly and Catherine Newton Heatly. She is survived by her husband, L. E. Arnold MD, son Bart Arnold, daughters Catherine Gohl and Allison Arnold, grandchildren, Lee and Emily Arnold, sisters, Sue Heatly of Austin, Ann Meyers of Stuart, Florida, and brother, Sid Heatly of Richardson, Texas. She was predeceased by her daughter Beth in 1995. Mary Gail graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954, and attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Following her marriage to L.E. Arnold in 1957, the couple moved to Galveston, Texas while Lee completed medical school. They returned permanently to Austin in 1965. She was a volunteer for several organizations, notably the registrars office at Stephen F. Austin High School. She will be remembered for her love of gardening, Texas Longhorn sports, interest in reading, and being with her family and friends. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend, and especially enjoyed being in the company of her two grandchildren whom she loved dearly. The family is grateful for the kind and caring attention from the doctors, nurses and medical staff of St. Davids Hospital. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum located at 605 Robert E. Lee Road, Austin, Texas, the Reverend Anne Hoey officiating.
