Mary was born Mary Evelyn Sites on January 29, 1931, the eldest of the five children of Florien Giauque (George) Sites and wife Ola May Willingham Sites in Wichita Falls, Tx. She attended Burkburnett High School and studied Library Science at Texas Women’s University pursuing her lifelong love of books.
On March 10, 1956 she married Jack Bow of Alpine and lived in Alpine for many years raising her children and working with her husband Jack at City Drug.
Mary is survived by her daughters Claire Bow of Austin, Tx and Ellen McRae of Colorado Springs, Co., her foster son Rusty Cooper of San Antonio, Tx, and her sisters Joan Mapes of Wichita Falls, Tx and Doris Bigoness of Fredericksburg Tx. She was predeceased by her brothers Jack and Dale Sites both of Midland, Tx. and her foster son Chuck Cooper of Spring, Tx.
Mary was a woman of boundless love which she heaped on her children, nieces, nephews and all who came within her sphere. Though she was never wealthy she shared what she had freely with those in need. She believed in the power of human touch, a hug or a head-rub was a gift of love. She brought the gift of laughter when she had nothing else to give even when her own heart was breaking.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all. May she rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society , www.nationalmssociety.org. Condolences may be left in Mary’s online guestbook at http://tinyurl.com/Mary-Bow-Guestbook.
