

Mary Penn, 94, of DeSoto, Texas was called home by her Lord on April 21, 2014. She was born in Middleton, Tennessee on June 8, 1919 to parents John Miller Grantham and Mary Roberta Norton Grantham. She graduated from Middleton High School in 1937 then went to a Business College in Memphis, TN. Prior to marriage she supported the WWII war effort by working in the office of a war production plant. She met her husband John P. Penn at a USO Dance at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN. They married on December 22, 1945 in Dallas, TX. She retired in 1984 from Sears in Dallas, TX after working 27 years in the catalog buying department. She was a faithful member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas, TX for many years.
Mary Penn leaves behind an amazing legacy of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many relatives, and a host of friends. She is survived by brothers and sisters, Ona Bonds of Mobile, AL, Edie Rowland of Collierville, TN, Miller Grantham of Dixon, TN, Bill and wife Betty Grantham of Dixon, TN and Jean and husband Don Palmer of Cordova, TN; son, Mike and wife Deborah Penn of Austin, TX; daughter, Janice and husband Bill Headley of San Antonio; grandchildren, Melinda and husband Jeremy Daise, Michelle Penn, Mary Helen and husband Dan Richards, and Jay Headley; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Melanie, and Leah Richards, Kayla and Erin Headley, and Aidan Daise; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, John Penn; and her sister, Joan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 2620 S. Congress, Austin, TX 78704. Celebration of life services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Friday. April 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Reception will follow at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3701 W. Slaughter Ln., Austin, TX. 78749 with Pastor Dennis Wall officiating.
Interment will be at Laurel Land Cemetery, 6000 South RL Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232 on Monday, April 28, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dan Griffin of Cliff Temple Baptist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Bluebonnet Auxiliary, Hill County Care, 1505 W. Hwy 290, Dripping Springs, TX 78620.
