Mary Josephine Collie Wroe passed away at Buckner Villa on July 23, 2015 at the age of 87 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. She was raised in Eastland, Texas by Della & Melbourne Collie until the 3rd grade when she moved to Austin and first met her future husband at Pease Elementary School. She was President of Austin High Red Jackets, joined Delta Delta Delta sorority at the University of Texas at Austin, and married Bill Wroe on June 2, 1951. Mary Jo enjoyed playing the piano, singing and dancing with her 3 devoted children, and became an avid hunter late in life while ranching in West Texas for 20 years. She always felt that fortune smiled on her, from her fortuitous adoption by loving parents, to her slew of loyal tennis, supper club, and birthday group friends, but mostly for her joyful 43 year marriage which brought into her life hundreds of Wynne family in-laws that she cherished very dearly.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband William A. Wroe and her son Judson Wynne Wroe. She is survived by daughter, Susan Wroe Perry, Austin, TX; son Dr. William A. Wroe, Jr., MD (Mariette), Austin, TX; grandsons Mason Wroe (Kaley), Cat Spring, TX; Clark Perry, Los Angeles, CA; Michael Perry, Austin, TX; Walker Wroe, Austin, TX; Patrick Wroe, Austin, TX; granddaughters Wesley Wroe Houston (Clay), Midland, TX; Whitney Wroe, San Antonio, TX; Ellen Wroe, Los Angeles, CA; great granddaughters Kynslee and Kalyn Houston, Midland, TX, and many nieces and nephews who loved her.
The family would like to thank the Buckner Villa staff for the years of respectful and dignified care for Mary Jo.
A graveside service is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13 at Oakwood Cemetery with a reception at the home of William A. Wroe, Jr immediately following.
