Maycel Marie (Alley) Shipley, 82, of Austin, passed away on September 5th, 2016. She was born on August 22, 1934 in Princeton, Missouri, Mercer County to Vee Marie (Hagan) Alley and William Eli Alley as an only child to the union.
Maycel attended and graduated from Steven F. Austin High School where she participated as a member of the school's Drum and Bugle Corp. After graduation she continued her education in Houston at the Baptist Hospital Lillie Jolly School of Nursing where she earned her degree and became a Registered Nurse in 1955. She was proud of her Nursing career, starting from premature nursing at Herman Hospital in Houston for over a year, to housewife in Pasadena for several years while raising our children, and as her Husband worked to provide living expenses then, to serving 15 years until retirement as a school nurse for the Texas School for the Deaf, where our deaf son, Ronald, was enrolled and later graduated.
While in training Maycel met an Air Force x-ray technologist who was working part time in the Hospital and after a short romance of several months married Melvin Lee Shipley on May 21st, 1955 and started a wonderful 61 year union which produced 3 wonderful children: Dawna Vee, Nelson William and Ronald Lee. From these children came 8 grandchildren from whom we now have 13 great-grandchildren. As a loving Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she has been a very active mentor, nurse, and family medical advisor when able to assist.
Maycel loved her family very much and she was thoroughly loved in return, which was evident at each of the many family events we attended, including many, many personal visits and she will be missed at any future event or visit. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Melvin Lee Shipley; Stepdaughter, Deborah (Shipley) Walhlster; daughter Dawna Vee (Shipley) Alexander and husband, Jeffery, with grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Jon, and Damien and wife, Erika; Son Nelson William and former wife, Gina, and present wife, Debra, with daughter Lisa and companion Michelle; daughter Ella and husband Brian; daughter Natalie and husband Norman; son Travis and wife Jenny; and son Ronald Lee and wife Linda, with Kathleen and companion, Eric, and Michael; and finally, 13 great-grandchildren, all loved by Maycel every one.
