Meagan Elizabeth Peterson, 36, passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2010 in Austin, TX. Meagan was a graduate of Texas State University with degrees in English and Social Science. Early in her career, she worked for Child Protective Services and later went on to teach young children. Fun-loving and deeply connected to nature, Meagan enjoyed camping and hiking. She shone her light on all around her and will be missed by every life she touched. Left behind to cherish her memory are her mother, Carlene South of Austin, Texas; her father, David Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; the greatest story of her life, her son, Benjamin Michael Avans, 5, of Austin, Texas; and a large extended circle of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice. Causes close to Meagan's heart dealt with rape crisis intervention, organizations that feed, house and serve the homeless, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Texas. Services to honor Meagan will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Mayfield Park, Austin, Texas.
