

Michael Sam Carr 1917-2007 Michael Sam Carr of Austin, Texas, died Friday evening, February 9, 2007. Several hours prior, he had received the Sacrament of the Sick from Reverend Robert T. Scott, CSP with his daughter, son-in-law, grandson and caregiver at his bedside. Michael, affectionately known as Poppi by his grandchildren, was born on October 19, 1917 in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. He came to the United States as a young boy of thirteen, grew up, raised his family and spent all of his working years in Waukegan, Illinois in the grocery business and later as an employee of Johns-Manville Company. Michael was a veteran of WWII having served with the U.S. Army in Europe. He was pre-deceased by his wife of sixty-four years, Anne, his father, Ralph, mother, Filomena, and sisters Diana and Christina. Michael is survived by his son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Sharon, of Bonita Springs, Florida, his daughter, Phyllis and her husband Jerry Nugent of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Carr of San Diego, California, Jerry Nugent, III and wife Lynne of Austin, Texas, Gwendolyn Nugent Flanagan and her husband Keith of Washington, D.C., Chandra Geanta of Bonita Springs, Florida and Dillon Nugent of Sausalito, California ; and great grandchildren Grace and Noah Nugent of Austin, Texas and Julian Geanta of Bonita Springs, Florida. His great grandchildren brought joy to us heart and a smile to his face even in his final days. We treasure the memories of our Sunday Family Pasta Dinners with him. He will be deeply missed. Special thanks to Pam Yonikus, his caregiver of the past four months who so lovingly tended to his physical needs and Reverend Robert Scott of St. Austin Catholic Parish who ministered to him spiritually. A prayer service and rosary will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 7 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Austin Catholic Church on Friday, February 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
