Michael was born in Odessa, Texas, and was the youngest of Jules and Carolyn Gipson's four children. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn; sister Marci Henna and husband, Louis; sister Kit Knox Viehbeck and husband, Al; and brother Colin Gipson, and several nieces and a nephew.
He was a constant source of joy for all who knew him, and left this world a far better place than he found it. He retained a wonderful child-like spirit and sense of humor that served him well until the very end. Michael's profound courage and determination were made evident through strength beyond measure; he taught us all how to live with gusto and how to die with grace.
After graduating from LBJ High School in Johnson City, Texas, he attended (then) Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, graduating with a B.A. in communications. He was employed by Four Seasons Resorts until his retirement in 2011, and studied Chinese medicine and acupuncture in order to help others.
Michael was a talented musician who, along with his good friend, Joan, played for weddings, at the Christmas Cantata in Blanco County, and other events for more than thirty years. He loved his family, his two cats, and his many friends. He will surely be missed.
Michael's wish was that his passing be marked by a gathering of family and friends, to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Dell Children's Medical Center Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
