

Milton Henry (Mike) Waterman, Jr. of Lakeway was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania on November 23, 1918. He passed away in Austin on Sunday, October 14, 2007. Mike was the son of Milton Henry Waterman, Sr. and Deanna Coad Waterman, and was the second oldest of seven children. He is survived by three sistersDorothy W. Gahn, Sara R. Carlson, and Jean E. Watermanand one brother, Donald C. Waterman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Marguerite W. Packer and James C. Waterman. Mike was a 1936 graduate of Grove City High School and a 1940 alumnus of Grove City College, where he earned a BS in Business. He entered the US Army in June of 1941, transferred to the US Army Corps of Engineers, and served in the Philippines during World War II. In 1943, he married Jane Coggins Lanier and began his career in steel, glass, and aluminum sales with the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company and then Truscon Steel, who transferred the couple from Ohio to Houston in 1948. Jane passed away in 1965. In 1966, Mike married Elizabeth Floeter Way and thereafter spent many wonderful years with her daughters and their families. During most of this time, Mike worked for Cupples Aluminum, and was involved with many of the skyscraper projects in Dallas, Houston, and Austin during the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He formally retired from Cupples in 1982, but continued to work as a manufacturers rep with Wausau Steel Company until 2000. Elizabeth passed away in 2003. Because of his height, Mike was known to his friends as Stretch. Because of his affinity for baseball, he was known to his family as Michael J. Baseball. He was among the first season ticket holders at the Astrodome, and he loved Sunday-afternoon Astros games just as much as he loved his nightly bowl of ice cream. He was a member of Colonneh Club in Houston, the Lakeway Country Club, and the Christian Science Church of Lakeway. He is survived through Jane by one stepson, William Lanier; five granddaughters, Donna Lanier Overhultz and husband Jon, Dana Lanier Barrera, Alison Lanier Clapson and husband Simon, Pam Lanier Kurth and husband Larry, and Amy Lanier Fuertes and husband Henry; and numerous great-grandchildren. Through Elizabeth, Mike is survived by three stepdaughters, Sally Way Horrigan, Susan Way Keiser and husband Charlie, and Ann Way McDonough and husband Kevin; six granddaughters, Libby Horrigan Martin, Katherine Horrigan Quie and husband Bill, Kerry Keiser Ugarte and husband Serge, Kathy Keiser Fletcher and husband Christian, Erin Horrigan Savage and husband Greg, and Molly McDonough; one grandson, Mark McDonough and wife Leah; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Janes other son, Donald Lanier. A service celebrating Mikes life will be held on Thursday, October 18th at 2:00 pm at Lakeway Church.
