

Mildred V. Caldwell passed this good earth suddenly on December 20, 2006. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 55 years, John Jack W. Caldwell. Also by her five children, daughter, Janet McCann and husband Michael, children, Sasha, Lindsey and Marissa, of Austin; son, John Caldwell and wife Daniell of San Francisco; son, Joel Caldwell and wife Judi, children Sarah and Liz of Los Angeles; daughter, Joni Cookie Espinoza and her husband Robert, son Alex of Savanna, Georgia; and son, Jerry Caldwell of Austin; sister, Charlotte Erdahl of Duluth, MN. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will all miss her dearly. Millie was born to Nicholas and Myrtle Nelson on March 20, 1930 in Duluth, Minnesota where she met and married Jack. She and Jack moved throughout the country and world during his military career. When Jack retired from the military they moved to Austin in 1975 to be near their first grandchild. Although she started her career as a hairdresser in San Angelo, Texas, upon arriving in Austin she worked at the IRS service center, Tracor, Small Business Administration and finally retiring from the Bergstrom Air Force Base Commissary Office. Although she retired from her office career in 1993 she never really retired from anything. Mom was always there for everyone who needed hershe gave so much and took so very little. She loved people the way Jesus loves them unconditionally. Millie was an avid supporter of the Austin running community. She attended many races to support Jack and volunteered at many race expos throughout the city, even traveling to Savannah two years ago to help her son-in-law in his production of the Enmark 10K bridge run. Millie was also a very active member at St. Johns Lutheran Church for more than 24 years. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Teenie Hefner, Dana Nielsen, Paul Carrozza, Fred Falbo and Scott Carey. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2006 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 409 W. Ben White.
