It is with great love and deep sorrow that we share the passing of Nicholas “Nick” Allen Drury, who left this world peacefully on September 27, 2025. Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, humor, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Nick was born on October 26, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Joe and Marie Drury. He grew up in Chicago, where he spent his formative and early adult years. A proud alumnus of St. Rita High School, Nick went on to serve honorably in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Following his service, he returned home to earn his accounting degree from Loyola University in Chicago and later passed the CPA exam.
In 1965, Nick married the love of his life, Frances “Kelly” Carey, and together they built a beautiful life over 59 wonderful years. In 1971, they moved to the suburbs of Chicago, settling in Bolingbrook, Illinois, before making Austin, Texas, their home in 1978. There, Nick served as controller for Lumberman’s Investment Corporation and later Temple-Inland.
Nick’s passions ran deep, especially when it came to sports. He was a lifelong, die-hard Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame football fan. After relocating to Austin and watching his daughters attend the University of Texas, he fully embraced the Longhorn spirit and became an enthusiastic supporter of UT athletics.
After retiring, Nick loved to travel and live life to the fullest. He and Frances journeyed through all 50 states and many European countries, spending countless summers in Vancouver, Canada, escaping the Texas heat while creating cherished memories. His sharp wit, big laugh, and love of fun endeared him to everyone fortunate enough to share in his company.
Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; daughters Cheryl Jackson (Jeff) and Erin Honts (Rob); grandchildren Kimberly Gordon (Colton), Scott Jackson (Madison), Kelly Honts, and Rachel Honts; great-grandchildren Kaylin Gordon and Jaxon Gordon; and brother Tom Drury (Cheryl). He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marie Drury.
Nick’s laughter, love of family, and joyful spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.
A celebration of Nick’s life will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 1pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in his memory.
