Nova Jane Crumley, 88, resident of Buda, passed away on June 12, 2013 at home. She was born near Johnson City to Katherine Tennessee and Lee Roy Bond on May 3, 1925. Born as "Baby Bond," many called her Babe throughout her life. She helped pick out her own name when she was five.
Nova Jane grew up in the hill country of Texas. Her family and friends admired her strong will and unmistakable grit. Her family enjoyed listening to her tell stories of her childhood adventures. She loved to learn. When she was young, she convinced her dad to let her go to school a year early, and in her later years she had her own library. Nova Jane had a passion for plants. She turned their empty prairie homestead into a gardener's paradise. In 1965 she opened D.E. Crumley Grocery with her husband. They were well known for their yearly Christmas light display that was visible to everyone who drove down I-35 south of Austin.
She is survived by her husband, D. E. Crumley; her sister, Ruth Adams; her son, Kevin D. Crumley and wife Nancy L. Crumley; her daughter, Kasandra P. Wood and husband Robert O. Wood; her granddaughter, Kimberly M. Norton and husband Jeremy R. Norton, and their two children, Jackson and Jared; her granddaughter, Katherine T. Sevon and husband Matthew J. Sevon; her granddaughter, Tana R. Harper and husband Joshua T. Harper; and her granddaughter, Eileen L. Crumley. She will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress, Austin, TX 78704. Interment will follow at White Rock Cemetery, Bee Caves, Texas.
